International Yoga Day - 2016, Dabhoi

On “International Yoga Day” Tuesday, the 21st June 2016, Yogi Divine Society, Haridham, Sokhada had organized in the Leuva Patidar Seva Samaj, Patel Wadi at Dabhoi a Yoga Shibir in which, 35 gents had remained present and received the primary/basic information about yogasans like suryanamaskar, pranayama etc. from the yoga teacher Dr. Shivangbhai Modi.

As a result of successful efforts by India’s P.M. Sri Narendrabhai Modi, United Nations Organization (UNO) has declared 21st June as “International Yoga Day” since the last year. To celebrate this occasion, Yogi Divine Society had organized this shibir in which, the yogacharya (the yoga teacher) had discussed and analyzed the asans with the help of a projector.

While explaining the difference between exercises and yogasans, the yoga teacher and a physiotherapist Dr. Shivangbhai had informed the participants that, in the exercises, only the parts of body are looked at while, in yogasans, along with the entire body, the importance is also given to mind and the rhythm of respiration and accordingly, the different yogasans are prepared/decided/formulated.

Excluding a few asans, he said that, all the other asans can be done by anybody of any age and informed about points to be taken care of while doing the asans that, they should always, as far as possible, be done in open place, sick persons should not do them, water should not be taken while doing them, should not be done immediately after taking the meals and the most important, should be done only after learning them from somebody expert in it.

After the above instructions, while explaining the 12 steps of suryanamaskar, he also informed as to on which parts of the body attention should be paid and how to do the respiration and then, while practically performing the vajrasan, dhanurasan, shalabhasan, sarvangasan and sabasan, he also analyzed their effects on mind and body with the help of slide show on the projector.
